FAQs and quick answers

What is shared cover?

Shared cover means that you share in your healthcare costs - Southern Cross will cover a percentage of an eligible healthcare service (up to a set benefit limit), and you pay the difference.

You can choose one of our shared cover health insurance plans, KiwiCare or RegularCare, in exchange for a reduced premium. KiwiCare and RegularCare cover 80% of your healthcare costs from day-to-day healthcare services, to specialist consultations, scans, tests, and surgical procedures.

Other shared cover products include our Health Essentials plan which covers 75% of your costs for GP consultations, dentist visits, optometrist and other day-to-day healthcare services, and the Vision and Dental module available to add to our Wellbeing plans which covers 75% of your costs for dentist visits and prescription glasses or contact lenses.
