Maintaining the GP and patient relationship
CareHQ was designed to protect the patient’s relationship with their enrolled GP, recognising that continuity of care is at the heart of good primary care.
Unlike other online healthcare providers, CareHQ doesn’t enrol patients or seek capitation, so there is no financial impact to the patient’s enrolled GP practice when a patient uses CareHQ. It extends the care provided by a patient’s enrolled practice, there to support after-hours and overflow demand.

The service continues after the consultation
CareHQ reviews all test results after the online consultation, so that registered practices do not have to do unpaid work. Also, CareHQ sends high-quality discharge summaries by Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) within days. If a patient needs a review in person, they will be referred to their GP or to nearby surgeries if unregistered. If necessary, a clinical team member will contact patients to follow-up.
CareHQ was created as an online GP consultation service built with primary healthcare needs in mind, hand-in-hand with patients. CareHQ GP credentials CareHQ's GPs are experienced New Zealand-based Fellows of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners. They receive specialised online consultation training and have clinical assurance through a clinical director. Patients appreciate the service provided by CareHQ GPs with 92 per cent of consultations rated at four or five stars.
“With a reducing workforce, GPs are facing higher demands to meet patient requirements and offer after-hours support. Patients access care through the app
Patients can book an appointment with an available GP through the CareHQ or My Southern Cross app. It delivers on-demand, online consultations 7 days a week, 7am to 7pm through a phone, tablet or computer. With just four clicks, patients anywhere in New Zealand can see a GP via the CareHQ app.
