Definition: 'Mondayitis' is a feeling of weariness, sadness, apathy and general distress that many individuals feel when starting the Monday morning work week. This feeling is usually enhanced after a large weekend.
It's Monday, and you're at your desk wishing you weren't at your desk. What can you do to make Mondays manageable, or even positively enjoyable? Here are some ideas from our team:
Breakfast is, as they say, the most important meal of the day. Make your Monday breakfast better than any other day. Pancakes, bacon and maple syrup; French toast; waffles and fruit salad; cheese omelette with herbs. Whatever gets you going.
You'll feel better if you're looking great. Wear your favourite outfit and put some extra effort into grooming.
Monday will always be more fun if there's something to look forward to. Make a lunch or shopping date with a friend.
You're undoubtedly not the only one feeling the effects of Mondayitis, so why not create a special work event that makes Mondays special - like 'Random acts of kindness day'. Put names into a hat and draw a different person every week. Surprise them with a compliment, a gift or a thoughtful gesture.
If you drive to work, play an uplifting CD on the way in. If you catch public transport, set your iPod to play happy-making tunes.
Start the week with a vase of flowers. Having flowers on your desk makes the world a prettier place.
Give your body a shot of endorphins with a burst of activity before work. Get up a bit earlier and go for a 30-minute power walk, run or cycle. If the weather's foul, do a DVD workout in front of the TV.
Instead of feeling sorry for yourself, think of five reasons to be glad. For example: you have a job, you're healthy, you live in a great country, you have a lovely family, you have nice teeth.
Go to an inspirational quote website and find a thought for the day that means something to you. Print it out and pin it to the wall. If you start to feel down, read it and be inspired.
