Frequently asked questions
-
What is HealthConnect?HealthConnect is a pilot that Southern Cross has offered to a small number of workplaces that subsidise the RegularCare plan. Eligible members will be able to receive eligible surgical procedures at a pilot partner facility without needing to pay the standard 20% co-payment portion of their procedure during the pilot.
-
My employer has been selected to take part in the HealthConnect pilot. How can I tell if I have access to HealthConnect? You will have access to the HealthConnect pilot if you have a RegularCare plan through your employer. Your membership certificate will detail which plan you are on, and if HealthConnect is available to you. You can view your membership certificate in My Southern Cross.
-
What do I need to provide to the pilot partner facility?
If the provider you are seeing is a Southern Cross Affiliated Provider, you need to provide them with your Southern Cross membership number and they will arrange prior approval for your surgery. You don’t need to provide anything further to the pilot partner facility.
If the provider you are seeing is not an Affiliated Provider, you will need to request prior approval the usual way, and take a copy of your prior approval letter to the pilot partner facility when you go for your treatment. You can request prior approval in My Southern Cross or in the My Southern Cross app.
-
How long will HealthConnect be available for? It’s expected that the HealthConnect pilot will run for up to 3 years. If there’s any change to the dates, it’ll be communicated to you in advance (including through My Southern Cross).
-
Why are you doing this pilot? As the leading health insurer in New Zealand, we’re well placed to pilot and trial some new initiatives for the benefit of our members. We want to make health insurance better value to you by improving long-term health outcomes for every dollar we spend. The HealthConnect pilot is one way of trialling this.
-
What if I want to choose my own preferred surgeon / specialist for treatment, instead of going to a pilot partner facility? You can still choose where to go and who to see to receive your treatment (subject to the terms and conditions of your RegularCare policy). You also have the additional option to have the standard 20% co-payment waived by having your eligible surgical procedure performed in a pilot partner facility.
-
I have only just started work with my employer – how can I get RegularCare with HealthConnect? If you are eligible to join your employer’s group scheme, your HR representative will inform Southern Cross. Southern Cross will then be in touch with you to discuss the options available to you and arrange sign-up. If no one has been in touch with you yet, please speak with your HR rep.
