Referring to an Affiliated Provider

The Affiliated Provider programme is one of the ways we are working with healthcare providers to help manage the impact of rising healthcare costs on the premiums our members pay.

An Affiliated Provider is a doctor, specialist or medical facility that is contracted to provide Southern Cross members with certain healthcare services at agreed prices.

Benefits for Southern Cross members

It’s easy. The Affiliated Provider organises prior approval for the healthcare service you need and
claims on your behalf.

It keeps your future premiums more affordable by helping us to manage
the cost of claims.

Agreed prices mean you know up-front how much your contribution will be (if any).

We have more than 700 Affiliated Provider agreements across New Zealand, including 1,300 healthcare providers, covering 20 different medical specialties. In the last financial year, about 50 per cent of all Southern Cross claims (costs) were paid through Affiliated Providers.

Some healthcare services are only covered under Southern Cross health insurance policies (excluding UltraCare) if they’re performed by an Affiliated Provider. These healthcare services are called Affiliated Provider-only services.
