Policy FAQs
Why are you implementing reasonable charges?
As a friendly society, we operate solely for the benefit of members, rather than shareholders or overseas owners. During the last financial year (ending 30 June 2025), more than 94% of premiums were returned to our membership in claims for their private healthcare.
By minimising the impact of rising healthcare costs, our aim is to keep the level of premium increases as low as possible for members to ensure affordability and continued access to private healthcare.
At the same time, for our members accessing private healthcare, there can often be uncertainty around how much healthcare services should cost. Members rely on us to pay sustainable and competitive prices for healthcare services, based on claims data.
Therefore, we ask health services providers to charge reasonably for healthcare services using our claims data as a guide. Reasonable pricing by all healthcare providers contributes to the sustainability of healthcare costs overall.
