Request cover or prior approval

  • If your healthcare service is being performed by an Affiliated Provider, they'll organise prior approval with us on your behalf. You do not need to contact us.
  • If your healthcare service is urgent (taking place within 5 days) and is not being performed by an Affiliated Provider, please call us on 0800 800 181 and press option 2.

Apply for your prior approval online

It’s best to apply for prior approval as early as possible. You can request cover or prior approval online in My Southern Cross or via the app. As part of this approval we will confirm whether the healthcare service is covered under your policy, and if any conditions may apply.

As part of the prior approval process, you may be asked to supply some additional information like a letter from your specialist or an estimate of cost.

Sometimes, healthcare providers may charge more than what we think is reasonable for specific healthcare services that aren’t covered by our Affiliated Provider programme. If this happens, you may need to make a member contribution. Please be aware of this when choosing a provider. Please contact us if you need help understanding what this means.
