Critical Illness

Extra financial support during treatment and recovery

Critical Illness is an affordable addition to your health insurance, and is designed to provide extra financial support when it's needed most.

You'll receive a lump sum cash payment if you're diagnosed with a critical illness or suffer a trauma such as a heart attack, stroke, qualifying cancer or loss of independent living. At what is undoubtedly a stressful time, you can use your Critical Illness payment to help take care of you and your family so you can focus on recovery.

Choose a cover option up to $300,000

You can choose from a range of payment options: $20,000, $50,000, $100,000, $200,000 and $300,000. In the event that you suffer from a critical illness or trauma you will receive the amount you have chosen as a tax-free one-off payment. It's up to you how you use your payment.

  • Taking time off - focus on your recovery, rather than worry about your finances.
  • Recovery treatments or rehabilitation - pay for additional or alternative treatments that may not be covered under your health insurance or by the public health system, like new cancer drugs or rehabilitation.
  • Staying on top of bills – helping with household expenses like mortgage payments or rent and credit card payments.
  • Family support - financial support so partners or family members can be there, especially for a child diagnosed with a critical illness.

  • Childcare and home help – making sure the kids are well cared for while you are having treatment, or arranging extra help around the home.
  • Overseas travel – taking a holiday to relax or visiting loved ones overseas.

Cover the whole family

Critical Illness is designed for the whole family, children up to the age of 21 years can be added to a Critical Illness policy at any time, and for larger families, you only pay for two children, the rest are free! Members aged over 65 years can continue to have some level of cover (the maximum level of cover reduces to $20,000 after age 65).
