Palmerston North hospital to provide endoscopy services for Health New Zealand in mid-central North Island
Crest Hospital in Palmerston North is excited to provide ongoing support and partnership to Health New Zealand to expand healthcare in the Manawatu.
We’re proud to be part of the solution to endoscopy waitlists in the local community, Chief Executive Officer Lyn Horgan says.
“This is so beneficial as we will be able to provide timely care while supporting the public health system.”
Crest, a Southern Cross Healthcare and Aorangi Hospital joint venture, has always provided endoscopies for patients referred from the public system, but this is the first contract with Health New Zealand.
“The agreement gives us the certainty we need and ensures continuity for patients and staff, Horgan says.
As part of its commitment to enhance healthcare in the region, Crest Hospital is also partnering on the development of a second large healthcare facility in Palmerston North.
Horgan says planning is well advanced to deliver services such as endoscopies, other day stay surgeries and specialist consulting rooms at the second site.
“This new facility will allow us to significantly increase the number of patients we provide care to every year.”
This year, Crest Hospital is set to provide care for thousands of patients from the MidCentral, Wairarapa and Whanganui districts.
“We have a huge catchment area - a significant portion of our patients come to us from either ACC or Health New Zealand, meaning we are truly delivering care for a broad section of people in the central North Island,’ Horgan says.
“We are increasing our workforce to provide for the additional endoscopy volumes and to future proof the delivery of surgical services we provide across the three districts.
“We are continuing to grow our services as part of our commitment to providing timely, high-quality care for current and future generations.”
