As a Southern Cross member, get trusted medical advice, prescriptions and referrals through NZ registered GPs and nurses. Use your phone, tablet or computer for an online consultation without the need to travel to a clinic, with appointments available outside normal GP practice hours.
Southern Cross members get free of charge access to CareHQ online GP consultations (7am–10pm, 7 days) and nurse consultations (9am–5pm, Sunday to Friday) when booked through the MySouthernCross app.*

Conditions CareHQ can treat
- and when to see a GP in person
CareHQ GPs can help with most everyday health needs, from common illnesses and repeat prescriptions to contraceptive advice and minor injuries. Nurses can support STI or UTI concerns and provide sick notes for up to 7 days. For complex conditions or certain medications, your regular GP may be required - contact [email protected] if unsure.
CareHQ is suitable for
- Respiratory infections & viruses
- Urine, ear & sinus infections
- Skin infections and rashes
- Stomach (gastro) viruses
- Headaches and migraines
- Repeat prescriptions at the clinical discretion of your CareHQ GP or nurse.
CareHQ is NOT suitable for
- Severe chest pain
- Shortness of breath
- Sudden allergic reaction
- Severe bleeding
- Suspected broken bones
- Sudden numbness, weakness or slurred speech
- Certificates that require a physical examination

I'm a Southern Cross member, do I need to enrol or register with CareHQ?
CareHQ simply provides you with convenient appointments with extended consultation hours without the need to attend a practice in person, if you're unable to see your usual GP when you need to.

Are Southern Cross members charged for a consultation?
Your Southern Cross membership includes free of charge* access to GP consultations with CareHQ between 7am-10pm, and nurse consultations between 9am-5pm when booked through the MySouthernCross app.
*Subject to change, terms and conditions apply.
CareHQ offers some other forms of consultations which are not included in your Southern Cross membership. You will have to pay in full using a credit card or coupon code for any consultation you book that is not a GP consultation between the hours of 7am and 10pm or a nurse consultation between the hours of 9am and 5pm (Friday-Sunday).
If you are unable to complete or initiate your booking using the MySouthernCross app, please contact us on 0800 800 181. Please note that if you book a consultation directly through the CareHQ website or CareHQ app, you will have to pay in full using a credit card or coupon code for any consultation you book. You will not be eligible for reimbursement from Southern Cross, unless you have the sufficient cover under your policy for GP services (for a GP consult) or nurse services (for a nurse consult).

Are my consultation details shared with Southern Cross?

Southern Cross exchanges some limited information with CareHQ to identify you as an eligible Southern Cross member. Southern cross will only use this information to process your benefits and analyse CareHQ consultation uptake by members. No health information about your consultation is shared by CareHQ with Southern Cross.
