Southern Cross Healthcare and Wellington orthopaedic specialist group OrthoDSU Ltd have formed a 50:50 partnership set to deliver the first day stay orthopaedic care facility to the Wellington region.

The day stay hospital will be located in a new purpose-built facility, currently under construction, adjacent to Southern Cross Wellington Hospital in Newtown, Wellington.

Mr Robert Rowan, an orthopaedic surgeon within the new partnership said, “the dedicated day stay facility will offer a range of benefits for patients who will receive expanded access and quality care delivered by some of the region’s most experienced orthopaedic specialists in a modern surgical facility.”

Dr Manoj Patel of Southern Cross Healthcare is Chair of the new partnership. Dr Patel said the new partnership aligns closely with Southern Cross Healthcare’s purpose to advance the provision of quality healthcare in Aotearoa New Zealand.

“The ongoing development of partnerships with specialists to expand the services we deliver to New Zealanders is critical to our strategy. Southern Cross Healthcare is a national network providing care for patients from Northland to Southland, both via our wholly-owned hospitals and our joint venture partnerships.

“Orthopaedic surgery is a core speciality offered at our hospitals and surgical centres nationwide, and this latest partnership provides us with an opportunity to build on our provision of quality care and outcomes for patients in the Wellington region.”

Construction of the new modern facility is expected to be completed towards the middle of 2025 and open at the end of the year.
