Southern Cross Health Society, CEO Peter Tynan stepping down

Monday, 11 July 2016 by Alistair Gray

After 12 years at Southern Cross Health Society, CEO Peter Tynan is stepping down.

Peter joined the Society in August 2004, was appointed to the position of Health Insurance Chief Executive in 2009 and went on to become the CEO of the Southern Cross Medical Care Society in 2014. Peter will remain in the role until a suitable successor is found and transitioned.

Tynan says, “I am very proud to have been part of the Society throughout its transformation into the digital age, its growth into corporate wellness and its outstanding improvement in service levels but it’s now time to move on. You always hope to leave an organisation in better shape than when you joined, this is no doubt the case - so it’s a perfect time to pass the reins”.

Peter is leaving with the endorsement of the Board and the search for a replacement will commence immediately.

Chairman Greg Gent said “I would like to thank Peter for his dedication to the Society and wish him well in future career aspirations. His leadership and contributions have left the organisation in a very healthily position and ready for the next chapter in its evolution.”

Southern Cross Health Society has a A+ financial rating from Standard and Poor’s and is New Zealand’s leading health insurer – paying 73% of the country’s health insurance claims. This year has seen a growth in membership not seen for eight years, both the launch and consolidation of insurance products, large growth in digital claiming and a move into Life Insurance.
