Our Affiliated Provider programme
Affiliated Providers are doctors, specialists and facilities contracted to provide healthcare services to members of the Southern Cross Health Society at agreed prices. Affiliated Providers arrange prior approval with Southern Cross on behalf of their patient and submit invoices directly to us through an online system.

Benefits for your patients
- Easy prior approval and claiming The Southern Cross member doesn’t have to apply for prior approval or fill out claim forms.
- Certainty of cost The Southern Cross member knows up-front how much, if anything, they will have to pay for their treatment. This eliminates uncertainty about the treatment costs they will be responsible for.
Benefits for you
- Certainty of payment Fees are negotiated at the beginning of the agreement so you are clear about what fees will be paid. By using the online system, you can apply for payment for a service as soon as it has been provided.
- Improved cash flows The paid amount is generally deposited into your nominated bank account within two days of requesting payment.
- Easy administration There’s no paperwork you have to complete. The online transaction makes administration of the member’s account easy.
- Support Dedicated Contract and Relationship Managers provide a direct point of contact for you at Southern Cross.
- Promotion We encourage our members to seek referral to Affiliated Providers whenever possible. You will be listed in our Affiliated Provider directory which is sent to members periodically and is also available online.
How we work with you
Our Contract Managers establish and maintain ongoing relationships with Affiliated Providers. Initially they work with you to agree and define the services to be provided under your Affiliated Provider agreement and the prices payable for those services. Your Contract Manager will then be in contact to undertake reviews and amend/expand agreements as required.
Our Relationship Managers look after the day-to-day workings of the Affiliated Provider relationship and are in regular contact with your administrative and financial staff. They will provide any support you may require relating to prior approval and claiming processes.
Another aspect of the relationship is periodic audits which focus on the application of Southern Cross reimbursement guidelines; the information we gather is used to improve these guidelines.
Next steps to join
Southern Cross welcomes the opportunity to talk with suitably qualified healthcare service providers about entry into the Affiliated Provider programme. You need to have vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council, relevant credentialing, and registration as a health practitioner under the HPCA Act.
We will talk with you about where you practice/operate, the range of services you offer, those services that may be suitable to deliver through an Affiliated Provider relationship, and remuneration for your services.
