What sort of plans are these?
KiwiCare is a shared cover plan that provides a contribution towards the cost of diagnostic tests, consultations and surgery.
What level of reimbursement do they offer?
In most cases, if your claim is for a surgeon and/or anaesthetist fee you are covered for the full cost up to the policy limit stated in the Schedule of Surgical Maximums ►. If your claim is for any other eligible healthcare service, your refund will be the lower of either 80% of your actual costs or the policy limit stated in the Coverage table of the policy document (please note that a small number of surgeon and anaesthetist fees are also calculated this way). For full details including limitations and exclusions please refer to the policy document ►
What does this plan include?
KiwiCare includes surgical treatment, medical hospitalisation and associated healthcare costs, where you share the costs of treatment. It suits people who are happy to pay their own day-to-day medical expenses (such as doctor visits and prescriptions), but who want cover for some of the costs of the expensive things (like eligible surgical treatment, medical hospitalisation and some consultations and diagnostics).
How affordable are these plans?
KiwiCare is one of our more affordable plans, because you share in the costs of treatment and it does not include day to day treatment costs. KiwiCare Budget goes a step further by offering a $100 excess to reduce premiums. If you take the excess option, we deduct $100 from each claim form you submit.
You may also be able to further lower your premiums through our:
- healthy lifestyle reward -if you have a healthy lifestyle (and aren’t part of a subsidised work scheme) we’ll reduce your premiums for up to two years; or
- low claims reward ► if you don’t claim over the low claims threshold.
How do you get this plan?
KiwiCare plans are available directly from Southern Cross.
